Rules & Regs Reminder

*Contest limited to homes and businesses in Alameda and Bay Farm Island only
*Judging based on exterior of homes (fronts & yards) and display windows and/or interiors of businesses
*Entry "fee" = a donation of a minimum of 10 items to the Alameda Food Bank from their wish list(we provide a box and collect items at the end of the contest)
*Contestants are encouraged to participate in the food drive through Oct. 31 and collect as many items as possible (again, we collect box at end of contest)
*House entries must be fully operational and ready for judging from 6 - 9pm on 10/26/10 and 10/27/10
*Business entries will be judged on 10/29 from noon to 3 p.m., award presented 4 pm
*1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes, People's Choice & Best Business awarded as well as several honorable mentions including Best Newcomer and Best Entry by age 12 & under
*Vote for the People's Choice Award right here on our blog starting - 10/26 6pm til 10/27 midnight
*One People's Choice vote per voter - please include title of entry and address
*Contestants agree to allow their entries to be photographed for promotional
purposes

Alameda-Haunt Your House! Night Bike Ride!!

Tuesday, October 26 - 6:30 p.m.
Join BikeAlameda for a fun bike ride around to view the entries. BikeAlameda will pick a safe route, give a safety spiel and lead the ride. We will stop at some of the decorated house entries. There will be refreshments along the way, too.

You MUST wear a helmet and have a head light and tail light on your bike. Any reflective gear would be helpful, too. It will be dark and we will be riding in the street at a moderate pace, so young children on their own bikes, please.

Starting location is 915 Broadway, again, at 6:30 p.m.!!

How Entries Are Judged...


The following is the criteria by which the Alameda-Haunt Your House! entries will be judged.  Scores will be rated on a scale from 0 – 5
(0 = none, 5 = outstanding)

1)  HAUNT FACTOR -  does your entry evoke a spine-tingling, spooky, eerie feeling?

2)  CREATIVITY – how much of your entry is hand made vs. store-bought?

3)  ORIGINIALITY – how is your entry unique or unusual?

4)  THEME – how well does the title of your entry follow through to the actual display?

5)  STRUCTURE – how well did you incorporate your home, front yard or business into the display?

6)  LIGHTING – is it impossible to see your entry or does the lighting dramatically enhance the Haunt Factor?

7)  SOUND – is there no sound or did you effectively incorporate sound to enhance the Haunt Factor?

8)  ANIMATION – are there no moving props or did you effectively incorporate moving props to enhance the Haunt Factor?
